Olympic Flame Trivia

Five hundred towns & cities are welcoming the Olympic torch en route to Rio.

Created by Brazilian design company Chelles & Hayashi the torch starts as a simple silver cylinder. As it is passed from one torchbearer to another (there are 12000 torchbearers in total), the torch expands to reveal these coloured segments. These represent the colour of Brazil, its people & culture. Each torch is crafted from recycled aluminium & resin. It is finished with a satin finish & stands 63.5 cm high, expanding to 69cm.

The 2016 Olympics hosted by Rio, Brazil commence on August 5th.
